For those who're familiar with Garcia Band shows -

Now that it looks like Garcia releases are getting started up again - what shows do you think should be released?

As SD notes, Arb can certainly provide some useful recomm's here, but Ashes could as well...along with Hunter, he has quite a collection of JG material as well.

I have not been collecting JGB shows, but have fond memories of those I saw in the mid to late 70s in the Bay Area. One of the best was sometime around 78 or 79, at Keystone, I think, in which he did Dear Prudence. It was one of the best songs ever (ie, rather than recalling entire shows as great, I often can just recall a single song that was really nailed, at least for me, and this was one of those top 10 experiences. Another was Kingfish doing 1814 with RHodinott [sorry, wrong spelling!] at the Roxy in 76. Yet another was JRiopelle doing WalkinonWater at a NewYear's show in PHX. Or the DEAD doing PegO at Wint/75).

Last Train From Poor Valley - It's on the Legion of Mary CD that was released a few years ago and is probably still available.

1982 Felt Forum New York City - The best Don't Let Go I have ever heard. Perhaps the best Garcia I have ever heard!

was that around the time Jerry got busted in his BMW smoking crack ?.....funny how Jerry would act in those days over popcorn crumbs in the carpet. I think that's why he quit coming to the Mabouy Gardens.

7/20/76, The Orpheum. This show is stellar, but the only seed out there has many cuts (including a really bad one in "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"), so I'm hoping there's a more intact version available (hopefully not growing mold).

Hey--is that the Orpheum as in SF? Didn't the DEAD have a run just prior to this at the same venue? I know I saw them in summer of 76 at the SF Orph, but can't recall if it was June or July...

Your brain cells are still intact. Three shows the week before. I went to two of them. The Orpheum was a great place to see them.

You got it, WT. And I love the GD run there too, the building just has this great sound that compliments them and JGB. The Dead run ends on the 18th, I guess JGB moved right in after and then The Music Never Stopped. :)

I read somewhere that Jerry occasionally played 'So What' with incarnations of JGB, so a release featuring that would appeal to me. Can anyone give me dates where it was played ? (Sits back and holds breath)

Only date I see for JGB is 11/3/78.
All others that I see are with Grisman.

Check here for more details.

A 10/28 and 11/3/78 combo would be greatness.

I was and it was sick. I posted about that maybe a month and a half ago. Amazing version. That was the weekend the jury was deliberating on the Civil OJ trial. Not sure if it had anything to do with the band playing Brothers and Sisters both nights.

11-5,9,15!,18,19-93 - well, something from that month, which we discussed about a year ago with Arbuthnot. And 11-15 was a special show for our friend Ashes, who recommended it quite a while back.

Arb:

This is all yours...that show from the 80's, maybe 84 you mentioned last week.

All I want is the killer unreleased stuff 70's & early 80's, bring it on. On another note, I LOVE the stuff I have now.

Give me an awesome Run for the Roses -- i can't get enough of that tune...
